Notion recurring tasks not working
Two different failures get the same search. (A) this occurrence never appeared — that is configuration. (B) next week is blank — the later rows were never created. Cadence is only for (B).
Split the two failures first
- (A) This occurrence never appeared. Repeat, permissions, or the view hid it. Work the checklist below. Cadence will not debug a hidden filter.
- (B) Next week is blank. The later rows do not exist yet. That is the empty-calendar problem.
(A) This occurrence never appeared
If today’s (or this week’s) row is missing, check the workspace before assuming the schedule is broken.
- Repeat is actually set on the template or page.
- The integration or people who need the page have permission.
- The Calendar / Table view is not filtering the row out (status, assignee, date range).
- Recurring templates do not trigger database automations (Notion Help, 29 Aug 2026). A Repeat-created page will not fire a “page added” automation.
- Plus Clock / Every {frequency} since 18 Feb 2025 is day-of. It does not pre-create a horizon.
(B) Next week is blank
Notion Repeat creates one page when the time comes. Calendar can only show pages that already exist. If next week is empty, send that case to why recurring tasks don’t show on the calendar.
“they’ll appear on my calendar only at the day they’re already due which makes it very bad for planning.”
“I want Notion to make sure not just the task for the next week will be created but the tasks for a few weeks after also.”

“a recurring meeting every monday will appear on monday morning and won’t be there the week before.”
10qs26t · 1 Feb 2023
“I would rather the item be duplicated and assigned the calculated “Next Due Date” as the “Due Date” property”

2sync (3 Apr 2026): “No future task preview… they do not exist in your database until the scheduled moment arrives.”
What people try
- Date-shift formulas that roll the due date after completion.
- Duplicate the page in advance and edit the dates by hand.
- Leave recurring planning for Google Calendar.
- RecurringTasks ($12/mo, 3-rule free) — spawn the next page on a schedule. Same timing as Repeat: the later week is still empty until that page is created.
- Zapier or Make, if you want an external create-on-a-timer.
Cadence is only for the blank-week case
If next week is blank because the rows were never created, Cadence previews the next 10 dates (read-only) and writes them after you confirm. Confirm is the only write. Cadence will not debug a hidden filter, a missing Repeat, or a permission miss.
Free $0 (1 rule) / Solo $9 / Team $19. For tools that actually write rows, see recurring-task integrations.
